What Is Shalom? (SHALOM SERIES)
Episode 157
What does shalom really mean?
We often translate the Hebrew word shalom simply as “peace,” but Scripture gives us a much bigger and more beautiful picture: wholeness, flourishing, harmony, communion with God—the way things ought to be.
In this introductory episode of the Shalom Series, we’ll trace this idea from creation and the brokenness of Genesis 3 to the peace Jesus offers us in the middle of a world that is still not as it should be.
We’ll also look at what Scripture says about shalom in Judges 6, Jeremiah 29, John 14, Philippians 4, and Numbers 6—and why our bodies, minds, relationships, and spiritual lives all matter as we move toward wholeness.
We discuss:
What is shalom?
Why we ache for a peace we have never fully experienced
The “war on shalom” that began in Genesis 3
How Jesus, the Prince of Peace, begins restoring what was broken
The connection between our spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical well-being
What to expect throughout the Shalom Series
